ALTERATIVE FORMULA:   In the medical dictionary, an alterative is defined as reestablishing healthy functions of the system, a medicine that procures a favorable change in the processes of nutrition and repair.  In the past, many producers of herbal medicines have created a great deal of alterative compounds.  It is many times the mainstay of treatment in many disorders, particularly skin disorders.  Alteratives are also called blood purifiers.  Contains:  Aralia Spinosa (Prickly Elder), Iris Virginana (Blue Flag), Phytolacca Decandra (Poke Root), Rumex Crispus (Yellow Dock), Plantago Major (Plantain), Alnus Serrulata (Tag Alder bark).  Herbal tincture

ASTRINGENT:  The word astringent comes from the word strin'gere which means Ato bind.  @ Astringents are generally used to cause a constriction of the tissues to either check excessive discharges or to promote healing.  They are generally used in conditions such as chronic or acute diarrhea, ulcers, and hemorrhoids.  One of the most famous astringents is Bayberry, made famous by the somewhat notorious Physiomedicalist the late Samuel Thompson.  Contains:  Geranium Carolinium (Wild Geranium herb), Myrica Cerifera (Bayberry root), Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow), Symphytum Officinalis (Comfrey root), and Capsella Bursa Pastoris (Shepards Purse herb).  Herbal tincture  Top of page

BIRTHRITE:  This formula came about because of the need to give the most beneficial partus preparator effects of the Cohoshes and at the same time to give the blood checking ability of Shepards Purse.  It is very well combined with Mitchella Repens (Squaw vine) tea.  I considered adding Squaw vine to this formula, but I felt it could better be taken as a tea, although it can be added if necessary.  The Black and blue cohosh are famous herbs for preparing the womb for birthing and making the birth easier, as well as helping with the after birth.  They are both perfectly safe and actually prevent miscarriage.  They do bring on natural birth when the baby is ready to come out, but do not bring on early birth.  Contains:  Capsella Bursa Pastoris (Shepards Purse), Cimicifuga Racemosa (Black Cohosh), and Caulophyllum Thalactorides (Blue Cohosh).  Herbal tincture  Top of page
